In English:Have you longed for the peace of knowing that God guides you? Let´s consider more about God´s guidance.
3. God sees and prepares for our history before it happens.
When we long for the guidance of God, we pray for God´s will to be done in our lives. While we pray, we often do not realize that God is already guiding our circumstances. Richard and I fervently prayed about where to live. As we prayed for guidance, we did not know that God was preparing for a death. God, who sees the all-embracing view, answered from a perspective only He understood--God located us for that upcoming death.
In tender mercy, God directed us to a place where, unknown to us then, I would heal. The people of my village understand, like I do now, the healing pleasure in the faraway views, the eternal perspective in a night sky filled with stars, the peaceful countryside at sundown, the moon shimmering over the horizon. God moved us into place. God saw and prepared for our history before it happened.
Following Richard´s death, I questioned whether God actively cared to continue guidng out-of-the-way me, located up a deserted path on the side of a mountain.
I read the promises in the Bible and the variety of verses that people lovingly sent me in e-mails and letters. I wondered why they gave me comforting verses about God´s guidance, while the preceding or succeeding ones were ignored. I tried to believe that God cared to guide me, but doubt stormed against me.
Finally after three years, peace settled into my soul. I knew I could trust God. Joy and gratitude to God flooded over my life. I stood firm with the knowledge and peace that God cared and would guide me.
What finally took the doubts away? The answer is given in the following principle.
4. God Himself, not the answers He can give us, has to be our greatest desire.
As we struggle about knowing God´s will, God desires to mature our focus. He obligates us to see our failure to trust Him, and tests our heart´s motivations. Do I only want the answers to my questions? Or do I want to trust God whether I understand His guidance or not?
After a time of doubting, God brought me to the place of firmly trusting Him. I learned that the most important issue was not God´s answers to my personal quesitons. More importantly God wanted me to Trust Him, whether He gave me answers or not. My personal questions were placed into proper perspective when I saw that delight in God and corresponding obedience were the central issues.
Do you want to find peace regarding God´s guidance? Make God your foremost desire and enjoy delighting in Him and obeying Him. Peace will then reign in your soul even though your questions, and mine, still may not have answers.
Trust in the LORD always, For the LORD GOD is the eternal ROCK.
Isaiah 48:17-18
Another perspective about God´s guidance still waits to be explored. It will follow, Lord willing, in the next Blog entry.
